There's quite possibly more mini-golf games available for mobile phones nowadays than there's real-world golf courses to play on in the UK. That's progress for you. The dynamics of the game suit mobile devices, so it's no surprise to find a mini golf title in the initial batch of nine iPod downloadable games.The game is an expanded version of Jamdat Mini Golf, which came out last year for mobile phones. It's a slick, accessible game that shows off the iPod's capabilities as a gaming device. Part of this is down to its simplicity. You aim your shot using the scroll wheel, which works well, and then press your iPod's Select button to bring up a power bar, before pressing it again to hit your shot.It's the ideal game to while away a few minutes on the bus or train, although equally it's challenging enough that we've found ourselves firing it up at home too. And it looks great. The viewpoint is top-down rather than 3D, but you can see plenty of thought has gone into the graphical detail.The sound is also atmospheric without being intrusive, with the distinctive clonk of putter-on-ball that you'd expect, and other effects (birdsong, circus music and so forth) filtering in the background, depending on the course theme. Of course, you can choose instead to play while listening to the songs on your iPod.

There are three courses to hack through: Tommy Totem's Tiki Putt-Putt, Cleopatra's Mini Golf Oasis, and Krazy Klown's Sideshow Golf-n-Fun. Each has its own distinct style, with scenery, beasties and other obstacles in keeping with the theme.At the start of the game you can only play Tommy Totem's course, but you unlock the next one by shooting a par or below round, and the same again to get the last course. You shouldn't have problems unlocking all three courses: the depth comes from trying to beat your best score.The courses are challenging without reaching the eye-popping annoyance of some mobile mini-golf games we've seen. This is a good thing. You never feel completely stuck on a hole, and every obstacle can be manoeuvred around using a bit of thought. By Stuart Dredge

Grab your putter as you take on the weirdest and wackiest golf courses you've ever seen. Ramps, jumps, and a huge variety of obstacles stand between you hitting a birdie or par over a number of worldwide courses. In World Championship Mode, complete 180 holes--and win--to become the world champion. In Single Course, play up to 18 holes you create yourself in the editor. In Random Hole, practice without having to select a particular hole; the game will select from among the custom courses.

This mini-golf simulator isn't necessarily intuitive to play, but it has its pluses. If you're feeling competitve, 3D Mini Golf lets you play in tournaments with 19 other computerized players, but you also can practice by playing a single course or random holes. At first, we couldn't figure out exactly how to increase the power of our shot, as doing so requires some mouse manipulation. Also, since this game lacks built-in help files, we had to go to its Program Files folder to figure it all out. The 3D graphics seem run-of-the-mill, though the bizarre, large-headed cartoon players add an element of zaniness. The game's feature set is pretty decent; the most notable customization option is a level editor that lets you design your own holes. Unfortunately, you cannot reconfigure the controls to find an easier arrangement. Some users may find the three-use trial a bit short as well. Still, if you're a fan of mini-golf games, it won't hurt you to try this one.

When on the tee, move the mouse left and right then click to choose the desired tee position.
Click and hold down the mouse button to pull back the putter. The longer you hold down the button, the harder you will hit the ball. Release the button to strike the ball.

Use the mouse arrow to help you aim the ball. Near the hole you'll have to use the angle of the putter as the arrow disappears.Multiplayer In a multi-player game, players take turns (from player 1 through player 4) hitting the ball. However, if a player putts and comes up just short of the hole, the game will allow the player to "putt out" and complete the hole. In golf, a skins game has players competing for prize money on each individual hole. There is an annual skins game for male professional golfers that takes place near the end of the year after the end of the official PGA Tour season. It is recognized by the PGA Tour, but it does not count towards the official money list. It is currently played at La Quinta Golf Course in La Quinta, California.

The Skins Game differs from most PGA tour golf tournaments for several reasons. First, only four golfers are invited to the tournament and the golfers play to win individual holes or skins in a match play format.Each hole is assigned a different monetary value and the golfer who has the lowest score on the hole wins the money for that hole.

In the event that two or more golfers tie (which is called halving) on a hole, the skin money carries over to the next hole. If two or more golfers would happen to halve the final hole, a playoff begins until one golfer wins the hole outright.

The Skins Game has a long tradition for being highly competitive, but also very fun both to play and to watch. In 2001, the player winning a hole outright had to tie or win the next hole to collect his skins from the previous hole. This was very tough to do. Greg Norman was the only golfer that could back up his win on the previous hole. He won the 17th and tied for low on the 18th to collect $800,000 which was the largest skin ever collected for one hole. He would go on to win $200,000 in a playoff to win the entire $1 million dollar prize money.
